I made this little potato lantern today with a birthday candle inside, a mock up for the ones we’ll be making in the Art of the Potato workshops at Spudfest. The eyes were cut out using an apple corer. The mouth is cut and the potato hollowed using a Kiddies Food Kutter knife, and then the inside is scooped out with a teaspoon.
Did you know the original Jack O’lanterns were made from potatoes?
The grade Preps have started building the Wombat Forest from Potatoes. We used Pontiac potatoes from Bernie White’s farm for the bases, and Purple Congo potatoes from the Dunn’s farm for the trunks. The preps cut the bases using the Kiddies Food Kutter.
